Hi lads,
Id like to take a break and I'm finding it hard. I could go through all the sites but I know I'll just find a new one in the 6 months I'd like off.
Is there anything like gamstop for Ireland does anyone know or would you all have any tips in this regard.
I don't feel the gambling is out of control but I'd like to start saving and stop using gambling to cure boredom during Covid.
Hey mate, I'm pretty sure you can call up your bank and tell them refuse payments from your account , so if you tried to deposit it wouldn't let you.
Hey man, I'm also in Ireland and have had to take the odd break from gambling myself, luckily I've learnt to budget my gambling now .
Unfortunately, there is no gamstop equivalent here. Irish banks do not have any gambling controls at the moment, we are way behind the UK in that regard, although AIB and Bank of Ireland have both said that they plan on implementing gambling blocking features in the future. The only option on the bank level is Ulster Bank who offer the option to block gambling transactions in the app with a 48 hour cool off period.
If you are with AIB you can open a 7 or 21 day notice account in the app, with this you can transfer money into it and can't access it unless you give 7 or 21 days notice, depending on the option chosen. I use this for my savings so I'm not tempted to have a gamble after a few drinks.
Another great option is betblocker, it's a free app that works on all platforms including PC, IOS, Linux, Android etc that will completely block your access to all gambling sites for the amount of time you specify. Betblocker is a registered charity and is funded by the gambling industry.
If you are really struggling you can always cancel your card completely or speak with a trusted family friend and change the details of your online banking, disable online card payments and give them the new login details without knowing them yourself.
I was travelling around Asia and Australia when the pandemic hit, when I came back I ended up living in rural Ireland with my parents and for a while and for the first time I lost control a bit and went slightly degenerate so know how you feel, luckily I've regained control.
If you would like more advice about your options in Ireland please don't be afraid to reach out, I'll be happy to assist.

Thank you for that message it's very informative.
the bank card won't work with Revolut and paysafecard. I know if I want to I'll be able to some way. Guess I'll just have to buck up and handle it, I feel I've never felt I had a problem and while I'm still in my means it's not as fun as it used to be so just going to stop and try to force my way through it (would be handier if I was made with Gamban but sure I'll give it a go)
again thanks for the help and sure I'll just try to cut down as much as I can and stay off them. Think I'll just close them all bar 1 (if I closed everything then the only option is new ones so best to stay with a trusted one if I do gamble a bit)
