£1.17m fine for marketing to vulnerable consumers Online gambling business Bonne Terre Limited, trading as Sky Betting and Gaming, is to pay a £1.17m fine for sending promotional emails to customers who had self-excluded or opted out of receiving marketing. On 2 November 2021, the operator distributed a Sky Vegas promotional offer of “Bet £5 get 100 free spins” to 41,395 self-excluded customers and 249,159 customers who had unsubscribed from the operator’s marketing emails.
For those of you who see this fine as a lot
Sky Betting and Gaming sent marketing emails out to 290,554 people who had chosen not to receive such marketing materials and this equates to a "fine" of around £4 for each person they marketed to. Just think about this the next time you get a bank charge letter for an overdrawn balance or a parking ticket for overstayng by 10 minutes and try to put the punishment in context.
I can only wish that SB&G still made me offers like that :(
They give me a spin on their win 10p or nowt wheel every day - what more could you ask for?
I don't even get to spin for a 10p scratchcard any more 😭
