Land based casinos in the UK, wtf?

I've seen a few videos from streamers etc playing in UK casinos, I always seem to notice the machines have a max payout of 500??? Why is this? Here in the republic of Ireland I've never seen a cap on a land based slot machine and have won 2000x a couple times.

Most casinos here have all the novomatics etc but I can't see any difference between them and the ones online.

Do you have normal slot machines?

Why do people play land based if they can only win 500?

Is there some other benefit that I'm missing?

All land based in the UK are restricted to a £2 maximum bet per spin and a £500 maximum payout

UK Gambling Commission for you.

We refer to them as FOBTS (Forward Operating Base Terminal)
