I think that the point here is that in the UK (and europe in general really), there are a lot of protections and stuff like that. Take GDPR for example until recently you could opt people into marketing as part of accepting website terms, and not tell them (except in the small print).
I agree you should have read the terms, and in general would recommend it!
BUT
I do think it's something that in general companies should make clearer.
When businesses have crap terms and governments force them to put information about the main ones front and center, (such as agressive marketing and min withdrawals/fees) especially when other business in the market don't do it, it forces the business to up thier game, or they lose that aspect of the business.
Imo FEES and MINIMUM amounts should be in that category.
