Apophenia -  Is it a phobia, a disease or something that all gamblers should be totally aware of.

This is a somewhat obscure word used to describe the ability of humans to see patterns in randomness probably better referred to a "The Monte Carlo Fallacy"

How many of you have played Roulette or Slots and had thoughts along the lines of "There has been a sequence of ten odd numbers, an even number must be due soon or there has not been a bonus for 400 spins, it's surely due now" The truth is that a RNG on a slot machine or a Roulette wheel has no way of influencing future events by reference to past events so this mindest is wholly and entirely irrational. Yet it is something we all do in our sub conscious.

We seek fairness and balance, where there is none to be found.

Randomness in gambling is what makes it fun - yet apophenia would appear to let us think we can defy nature and organise it.

All the world's a stage and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.
